Setter Options

Setter options refers to the variety of attackers and sets available to the setter on a given play. In a 5-1 system with the setter in the back row, the setter typically has three front-row hitters plus one or more back-row attack options (pipe). When the setter is front row, they may also dump on the second contact (FIVB Rule 13). Setter options are a tactical concept, not defined in FIVB rules; all attack rules apply regardless of which option is chosen.
