Pipe Attack (Pipe)

A pipe attack is a back-row attack hit from the middle-back position (position 6) behind the attack line. The hitter approaches from behind the 3-meter line and attacks a set delivered to the center-back area of the court. Per FIVB Rule 13.3.2, the takeoff must be from behind the attack line. The pipe is a common back-row offensive option because it is difficult for blockers to cover simultaneously with the outside and right-side hitters.
