Per FIVB Rule 1.4.4, the Libero Replacement Zone is the part of the free zone on the side of the team benches, limited by the extension of the attack line up to the end line. Per FIVB Rule 19.3.2.7, the Libero and the replacing player may only enter or leave the court through this zone, and replacements take place while the ball is out of play and before the whistle for service (FIVB Rule 19.3.2.4). The libero may only replace a back-row player (FIVB Rule 19.3.1.1), and the Acting Libero can only be replaced by the regular replacement player or by the second Libero (FIVB Rule 19.3.2.2). Libero replacements are unlimited and are not counted as substitutions, but there must be a completed rally between two of them (FIVB Rule 19.3.2.1). NFHS and NCAA maintain similar libero replacement zone requirements.
