Libero

The libero is a specialized back-row defensive player whose uniform's dominant colour differs from the rest of the team (FIVB Rule 19.2). Per FIVB Rule 19.3.1, the libero may replace any back-row player and is restricted to playing as a back-row player. The libero may not complete an attack hit from anywhere when the ball is entirely above the top of the net, and may not serve, block, or attempt to block. Libero replacements are unlimited and are not counted as substitutions (FIVB Rule 19.3.2.1). A team may designate up to two Liberos on the score sheet (FIVB Rule 19.1.1). If a Libero is injured, ill, expelled, disqualified, or declared unable to play by the coach, another player may be re-designated as Libero (FIVB Rule 19.4).
