Under NFHS volleyball rules, the libero is allowed to serve, but only from one specific rotational position per set. The libero may replace the back-row player in that one position and serve; serving in a second position is not allowed. When two liberos are designated, either may serve, but both must serve in the same position throughout the set. This differs from FIVB Rule 19.3.1.3, which prohibits libero serving; USAV and NCAA allow libero serving in one position, as NFHS does. If a designated libero is injured, a new libero may be re-designated; if one of two designated liberos is disqualified, the team continues with one libero. Under all rulesets including NFHS, the libero may not attack above net height, may not block, may not set overhand from in front of the attack line for an above-net attack, and must wear a contrasting jersey.
