Per FIVB Rule 7.3.1, there must always be six players per team in play. Per FIVB Rule 4.1.1, a team may record up to 12 players for a match. In FIVB, World and Official competitions for Seniors, up to 14 players may be recorded, and a team with more than 12 players must list two Liberos (FIVB Rule 19.1.1). NFHS and NCAA rules set no limit on the number of players on a team. USAV limits a team to 15 players and five coaches or team personnel unless the specific competition regulations modify it. The front row is positions 4, 3 and 2 (front-left, front-centre, front-right) and the back row is positions 5, 6 and 1 (back-left, back-centre, back-right), per FIVB Rule 7.4.1.
