Per FIVB Rule 7.6.2, a team must rotate immediately after winning the right to serve from the opponent. Rotation is clockwise: the player in position 2 moves to position 1 and serves next. Rotation only happens on a sideout: if the serving team wins the rally, no rotation occurs and the same player serves again. At the service hit, the six players of the receiving team must be in their correct rotational positions (FIVB Rule 7.4), while the players of the serving team may stand anywhere on their court. After the service hit, all players may move anywhere (FIVB Rule 7.4.4).
