Swing Blocking
Swing blocking is a technique in which a blocker starts outside the antenna and swings their arms horizontally inward as they jump, covering a wider range of the net. This contrasts with stationary blocking where the hands are raised straight up. Swing blocking is legal under FIVB rules provided the blocker does not reach over the net before the opponent contacts the ball (FIVB Rule 14.3.1 -- blocker may reach over after the opponent has made their attack hit). Swing blocking is widely used at the elite level to increase block width.
