Read Blocking
Read blocking (also called "reading" or "soft blocking") is a defensive blocking technique in which the blocker waits to observe the setter's body position and arm angle before committing to a jump, then attempts to block based on where the set is going. This contrasts with commit blocking (keying on the hitter before the set). Read blocking reduces the risk of being on the wrong side of the hitter but requires quick reactions and good anticipation. It is a tactical term, not defined in FIVB rules.
