Commit Blocking

Commit blocking is a blocking technique in which the blocker keys on and commits to jump with a specific hitter before the setter makes contact, attempting to block a quick or predetermined set. Commit blocking is used against predictable or dominant middle hitters. If the setter reads the committed blocker and sets elsewhere, the committing blocker is taken out of the rally. It is a tactical term, not defined in FIVB rules, but all block contact rules apply (FIVB Rule 14).
