Roof (Stuff Block)

A roof is a slang term for a dominant stuff block in which the blocker's hands are positioned above the ball and drive it straight down into the attacker's side of the court, winning the point directly. "Roof" and "stuff block" are colloquial terms, not defined in FIVB rules. A stuff block is legal and scores a point for the blocking team if the ball lands in bounds on the attacking team's court (FIVB Rule 14.1.1). After a block, the blocking team's next contact counts as their first of three.
