Serve-Receive

Serve-receive (also called reception or pass) is the first team contact used to receive the opponent's serve and initiate an offensive play. It is typically a forearm pass (bump) or, in some systems, an overhand platform. The quality of the pass largely determines the options available to the setter. "Serve-receive" as a tactical/statistical term is not formally defined in FIVB rules; the general contact rules (FIVB Rule 9) apply. Serve reception errors (aces) count as direct points for the serving team.
