Passing Lanes
Passing lanes are the designated court areas assigned to each passer in serve-receive formation. Typically three or four players form a W or three-person passing platform, each covering a specific zone of the court. "Passing lanes" is a tactical term not defined in FIVB rules; assignment of lanes is a coaching and team decision. Effective passing lane coverage reduces seam balls and ensures the setter receives a high-quality pass to run the offense.
