Jump Serve (Topspin Serve)
A jump serve (also called a topspin serve) is an aggressive serving technique in which the server tosses the ball forward, takes an approach, jumps, and strikes the ball with a full arm swing to generate topspin. The ball dips sharply and travels at high velocity. Per FIVB Rule 12.4.2, the server must toss the ball and contact it before landing in or beyond the end line. The takeoff must occur within the service zone; the server may land in the court after contact. Jump serves are the primary offensive weapon at the collegiate and professional levels.
