Ball Handling

Ball handling refers broadly to a player's ability to contact the ball cleanly and control it, encompassing setting, passing, and other non-attack contacts. "Ball handling" is a coaching/statistical term. In a rules context, it most specifically refers to the setter's overhand finger-action set, which is closely scrutinized for lifts (FIVB Rule 9.2.2) and double contacts (FIVB Rule 9.2.1). A legal set must rebound quickly and must not be prolonged (held). Mishandled sets are among the most common referee calls.
