Ball Handling

Ball handling is a player's ability to contact the ball cleanly and control it. It covers setting, passing, and other non-attack contacts. "Ball handling" is a coaching/statistical term. In a rules context, it most specifically refers to the setter's overhand finger-action set, which is closely scrutinized for catches or throws (FIVB Rule 9.2.2) and double contacts (FIVB Rule 9.3.4). A legal set must not be caught or thrown. Mishandled sets are among the most common referee calls.
