Double Contact (Double Hit)
Definition
A double contact is when a player hits the ball twice in succession or the ball touches various body parts in succession (FIVB Rule 9.3.4). Per FIVB Rule 9.1.1, a player may not hit the ball two times consecutively. Simultaneous contacts with several body parts are always legal (FIVB Rule 9.2.3). Consecutive contacts are permitted during one action at blocking and on the team's first hit, such as serve reception or receiving an attack (FIVB Rules 9.2.3.1 and 9.2.3.2).
