Overlap Fault (Positional Fault)

An overlap fault is committed when one or more players are out of their correct rotational position at the moment the server contacts the ball. Per FIVB Rule 7.5.2, the fault results in a point and service for the opponent. The positional relationships that must be maintained are: each front-row player must be closer to the net than the corresponding back-row player on the same side; each right-side player must be to the right of the center player; each left-side player must be to the left of the center player.
