Every governing body, every league, every tournament director knows the paper scoresheet. You will never be turned away for having one.

Where Paper Quietly Breaks.
These arent rare edge cases. Every scorer who has worked more than a handful of matches has hit most of these.
Lineup Transposition Errors.
Coach hands in the lineup sheet. Scorer transcribes it. Digit gets flipped. Three rallies later someone notices player 8 is where player 18 should be. The fault is on the scorer and its hard to unwind.
Illegal Subs Get Recorded Anyway.
A coach calls for a thirteenth sub. The scorer is behind, not counting. By the time someone realizes, the player has already served a rally. Now you have a mess that requires a coin flip, a conference with the R1, and a disappointed coach.
Libero Tracking Needs a Second Sheet.
Most leagues use a separate libero tracking sheet. Two forms in parallel means two chances to fall behind. Under NFHS you also have to count libero serves, which many scorers miss entirely.
Correction Is a Disaster.
One wrong digit midway through a set becomes a line through, an initial, and a rewrite. Three corrections in and the sheet is a mess that a tournament director will squint at for ten minutes.
Arithmetic Is On You.
Running point totals, rotation number, deviation column, set points. You are doing math between every rally. Experienced scorers are fast. New scorers fall behind, and once they fall behind the sheet never recovers.
