The moment the match is official, competitive, or longer than a single set, the gap gets obvious.
No Rotation Memory.
The flipper has no idea who is serving, what position each player is in, or whether the rotation is correct. An overlap or rotation fault is invisible until a coach or referee catches it, and by then the point is already gone.
Substitutions Are Your Problem.
USAV gives you twelve team subs per set. NFHS gives you eighteen individual subs. The flipper tracks none of this. Coaches use hash marks on a notebook, lose count, and a thirteenth sub gets waved through before anyone notices.
Libero Tracking Is Impossible.
Who the libero replaced last rally, whether they can serve this rotation, how many times they have served under NFHS rules. None of it fits on a two-digit flipper. You have to hold it all in your head.
No Record After the Match.
When the match is over, the flipper shows the final score of the last set. Thats it. No set-by-set scores, no sub history, no timeout log, no way to hand anything to a tournament director. You still need a scoresheet.
