Back-Row Attack

A back-row attack fault occurs when a back-row player attacks a ball entirely above the net after taking off at or in front of the attack line. The attack line is the 3-meter line, and the takeoff point decides the fault, not where the player lands. Per FIVB Rule 13.2.2, the player may jump from behind the attack line and land in front of it, provided that at take-off the feet neither touched nor crossed the attack line. The libero is prohibited from completing any attack hit where the ball is entirely above the net, wherever the libero is on the court (FIVB Rule 19.3.1.2).
