Penetration (Blocking Penetration)

Penetration refers to a blocker reaching their arms and hands over and across the top of the net into the opponent's space. Per FIVB Rule 14.3, after the opponent's attack hit has been made, a blocker may reach over the net to block. However, the blocker may not touch the ball beyond the net before an opponent has executed an attack hit, and the action must not interfere with the opponent's play. Touching the ball in the opponent's space before the opponent's attack hit is a blocking fault (FIVB Rule 14.6.1) and gives the opponent a point.
