Overlap

An overlap fault (also called a positional fault) occurs when a player is not in their correct rotational position at the moment the ball is contacted for the serve. Per FIVB Rule 7.5.1, each player must be within their correct zone relative to adjacent players: right-side players must be to the right of their left-side partners, and front-row players must be closer to the net than their back-row counterparts in the same lateral zone.
