Rally

A rally is the sequence of playing actions from the service hit until the ball is put out of play. Per FIVB Rule 1.4.5 (definitions), a rally ends when a fault is committed or the ball is out of play. Under rally scoring (FIVB Rule 6.3), each rally results in a point being awarded to one team. The winner of the rally either scores a point and retains the serve (if they were already serving) or scores a point and earns the serve (if they were receiving).
