Pancake

A pancake is a defensive emergency technique in which a player slides a flat hand along the floor so the ball contacts the back of the hand instead of the floor. It is used when a player cannot get their forearm under the ball in time. A pancake contact is legal under FIVB rules provided it results in a clean, single contact (FIVB Rule 9.1 permits contact with any part of the body). The pancake is common in beach volleyball and indoor volleyball for hard-to-reach balls near the floor.
