Overpass

An overpass occurs when a team accidentally sends the ball over the net on their first or second contact instead of setting up for an organized attack. The ball legally crosses to the opponent's side, and the opponent may play it or let it land. An overpass is not a fault by itself -- the ball simply crosses to the opponent's court and play continues. The opponent must play the ball if it lands in bounds; if it lands out, the overpass team scores a point (FIVB Rule 11.1 -- ball in play).
