Overpass

An overpass occurs when a team accidentally sends the ball over the net on its first or second contact instead of setting up an organized attack. The ball legally crosses to the opponent's side, and the opponent may play it or let it land. An overpass is not a fault by itself, the ball simply crosses to the opponent's court and play continues. If the ball lands in the opponent's court, the overpassing team scores a point (FIVB Rule 6.1.1.1). If it lands out without the opponent touching it, the opponent scores, because the overpassing team hit the ball out (FIVB Rules 8.4 and 13.3.2).
