How many sets are in a volleyball match?

Most volleyball matches are best of 5 sets. The first team to win 3 sets wins the match. Some formats use best of 3 (first to win 2 sets).

Full Explanation

Per FIVB Rule 6.1, a match is played as the best of 5 sets. The first team to win 3 sets wins the match. Each set (except the deciding 5th set) is played to 25 points with a minimum 2-point lead. The deciding set 5 is played to 15 points with a minimum 2-point lead. Under NFHS rules, sets are also played to 25 points (or 15 for the deciding set) with no point cap at most levels except a 27-point cap on sets 1-4 and 17 for set 5. NCAA uses best-of-5 with sets to 25 (15 in set 5), no cap.
